Thank you for your response, I will answer questions as many as possible. Please refer this for other team's question. And if you have more questions, please feel free to ask me anything. I will put this document on my homepage (www.art-workshop.net) at FAQ page in "Familiar Hour Project".
Question about materials
Film and photo:
Q: What size of the photo.
A: 10X15 (cm).
Q:Are the photographers for taking the pictures that we will use on the cartons
or to take photographs of the students working? In other words if the students
bring all their own pictures(6) 2 photos, 2 slides and 2 negatives we do not
need the photographers?(NY: Knox School/541 Long Beach Rd.
A: I need both kinds of photo; one is family pair of the face photo, and one
is the view of workshop. Yes, if they can have photo materials before workshop,
we don't need 2 photographers. One photographer is enough for the workshop.
Q:Do we need all the photos (Q2) before we start or is it possible to do it
in the project?
A:No, if this workshop will work with pulps and their family. They can take
photos during the workshop hours. But students who will participate without
their parents, they need to prepare the photo materials before the workshop.
Q:How can I make pair of flame and photo?
A:When you take pictures of yourself, you must hold a card that has your name
on. In case of one-day workshop, I will be developing photo films in Tokyo and
printing the pictures in the frames. So, I need the name on the picture and
the frame.
The mould of frame with the milk carton
The milk carton is the size of (19x7) x4. This is the size of 1litter milk carton.
If you are planning to use the different size of milk carton, please let me
know. Participates will create a mold of the frame with (out of line)30cm x
25cm (12"×9.8"), including a space inside to contain the pictures.
Q: How much do we need for one frame, how do we get the right consistence?
A: 3 milk cartons are necessary to create one frame. The amount of the bond
depends on the size of flame and number of participates. I guess 1.5 litter
of the woodwork bond is enough to make 10 frames. In the progress, the bond
would be mixed with little bit of water.
Q:The mould of a frame will be embed with 6 memories of the families?
A: you could put any material of memories into the mould of frame. But please
do not place too big ones. Every frame will be lined by sideways. (See the photo
below)
Q: What kind of bond would be use for this work?
A: For woodwork bond, because it will turn out very clear after they dry up.
Q:Most children will not have parents participating... Please explain what
you mean by the 6 materials each family will need. For each picture, will they
need to have 2 prints, 2 negatives of the prints, AND 2 slides taken of the
same shots? If so, the expense of the print and slide film, plus developing.
(After school program PS 153,NY)
A:As I think this opportunity is very valuable. Therefore, I like to record
the workshop in various mediums. I also understand that it is very expensive
to develop slides for those participants who want to take pictures at home and
make a photo frame at the workshop. If participants think that taking 2pitures(both
shots from right side and left side) using one role film is too expensive, they
don't have to have slides. That is to say, bringing slides is not responsible
for every participant. However, in the presentation using slides, I will not
be able to show slides of the participants who are not bringing slides.
Question for Workshop contents
Q:About how long will the project take? (Christiane Homering/Berlin)
A The workshop will take 2hours and 1 hour meeting with assistants and volunteers
before the workshop. Also, I am planning to come to your school at the day before
the workshop for a meeting person in charge.
Q: may limit how many of our children can participate...
A: One workshop can hold 60 pairs maximum, so total maximum participates will
be 120people including parents.
Q:Our students are between 5-11 years old. We can limit the project to particular
age groups if you want. (After school program PS 153,NY)
A: No limit of the age.
Question about out line of workshop
Q:the most important is: Do you want to come to our school to hold the workshop
or do you want to come to get the finished works?
In case you should come to the workshop we would of course organize it in a
different way than we planned before: All participating families would come
together than. (Christiane Homering/Berlin)
A:I strongly wish to be at the workshop. However, if it is not possible due
to your reasons, put the practice of the workshop into your hands. So I like
you to let me know the situation and try to adjust the date of the workshop.
Also, I like stay there after the workshop is finished until the bond is dried.
Once the bond is dried, I will take the work to Japan. If the bond is completely
dried, it will not be easy to get damaged during the shipment. In case I could
not take the work with me, and the work need to ship later, the shipping expense
will be charged to the person who have the cause. For example, if you want to
exhibit the work, you have to pay for shipping to Japan.
(If bond have not dried up, I will bring back with mold of frame)
As far the copyright and the ownership of each work, I want you to donate them
to me. At first, I planned to exchange the work, however I have been receiving
so many responses (at this moment, 4 organizations/schools in New York, 7 organizations/schools
in Berlin, 1 school in Singapore, and 2 schools in Paris,1 school in Milano),
in total 15 organizations/schools have applied to participate in the project.
Due to this reason, it will be difficult and expensive to ship the work to all
of them. I am trying to find a sponsor for this project in order to put this
project into practice, but I haven't found one yet.(It means not enough Government
support yet.)
And if the work is damaged during the shipment, I cannot response for it. In
order to the project into practice smoothly, donating the copyright and the
ownership is a better way. It certainly does not happen to use the work for
profit making. If it happens, the profit will be contributed to the non-profit
organization. If I could find a sponsor, I will try to exchange the work between
the participated groups and ship the work back to you.
I am very pleased for many people approve of this project, so I will try to
do my best for all of the participants to enjoy the workshop. Thank you for
your cooperation.
